Serving Bay Area teachers and their students since 1990

The Bay Area Earth Science Institute (BAESI; pronounced "Bay-see") is a comprehensive year-round professional development program for teachers of grades 4-12. A non-profit organization funded since 1990 by the National Science Foundation, San José State University, Chevron, and a consortium of community partners, BAESI promotes earth science, with its multi-disciplinary approach and relevance to everyday life, as a powerful tool for bringing science to all students. Over the past 19 years, BAESI has served more than 2,000 teachers while developing a strong and effective model for teacher enhancement. BAESI is directed by Ellen Metzger and Richard Sedlock of SJSU's Geology Department.
