Water Today and for the Future
July 22 and July 23, 2021
We are pleased to announce an online teacher professional development workshop focusing on the 2021 Earth Science Week theme: Water Today and for the Future. Taking an Earth systems approach, we will examine the place of water in each system, address water scarcity and sustainability, and seek understanding about the politics of water in California. We will also explore whether science and engineering have the answers to our water issues. This workshop will prepare teachers to participate in Earth Science Week through inquiry-based learning aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The workshop will be completely online and will include both synchronous and asynchronous learning, as well as small group experiences.
Who: Teachers of grades 6-12
What:
In this BAESI workshop keyed to the NGSS standards, you will engage in collaborative learning activities and participate in breakout sessions by grade level and discipline to explore the following topics:
● California water – from watersheds to our faucets
● Drought – causes and effects from an Earth Systems perspective
● Water sustainability in California – conservation, recycling, and generation
● Politics of water in California’s Central Valley
● How to use specific AGI Earth Science Week resources
Why?
• $150 stipend (must attend both days)
• Earn 1 unit of Geology 104 for $50 (optional)
